About the pub:
Closed Jan 2018, recently acquired by a Jersey company and now re-opened. Food now available - pie and mash with pies from Pieminister. Handpumps removed by August 2019 although Doom Bar was still being advertised for sale.
This site was occupied by the Cricketers, destroyed during WWII, its replacement was known as the Good Mixer built in the 1950s, derived from the cement mixer that was absent-mindedly trapped in the pub during its construction.
Starting life as a working man's pub, it gained notoriety as the drinking pub of choice for a long list of bands throughout the 90s Britpop years.
The pub was the setting for the opening blow in the Oasis vs Blur feud where on meeting Graham Coxon for the first time Noel Gallagher reportedly said: "Nice Music, Shit clothes."
The pub was where the band Elastica signed with Deceptive Records, where Menswe@r are said to have formed and was a regular haunt for many celebrities. Amy Winehouse was often seen playing regulars on the pool tables.
It had two separate bars, dominated by a pool table and a bar billiards table, fairly dark with matchboard panelling and dark ceilings. Juke box.

About the pub:
Sprawling, two-bar, multi-roomed pub opposite the tube, on the site of the'Old Mother Redcap', which recalled an (alleged) local witch of yore. There has been a pub on this site for nearly 400 years, operating under the present name since 1985. It divides neatly into two parts - a wooden-floored bar (nearest to the High St) leading to its larger, stone-flagged counterpart. A food servery connects the two.
A separate dining room and a balcony bar provide extra drinking space, which is just as well, as the place can get very busy, particularly on music nights at the related 'Underworld', occupying a site directly under the pub.

About the pub:
Reopened after a refurbishment and changed name to Sheephaven Bay and run by the people from the Oxford Arms by Camden Market, it has been modernised with bare, laminate floors, big wooden tables and although opened up, it still retains a separate feel between the two bars. 7 plasma screens feature lots of sport, many from Ireland.
There is a function room at the rear and a garden/patio out the back and medium priced food served Mon-Fri 12.00 to 15.00 and 17.30 to 21.00, Sat & Sun 12.00 to 20.00.
A two minute walk from the High Street, use the footpath up the side of Tommy Flynns and just keep going straight on. Oh yes, Sheephaven Bay is in Donegal where the landlord comes from! Camden Town tube is only 10 at most minutes away, just nearer is Mornington Crescent. Monday quiz starts at 21.00. Nice range of malts.
